Any person, who the law does not declare incapable of doing so, can prepare the way in which his property and charges (his inheritance) will be distributed after his departure. In fact, if nothing is done, the Civil Code establishes a class of successors (legitimate and rightful heirs) who will inherit a person's assets and liabilities, such successors generally being the most direct family (spouse, children, ascendants, brothers and sisters, other collaterals up to the fourth degree, the descendants of brothers and sisters, regardless of the degree of kinship in the collateral line and the State itself). Without prejudice to the above and in accordance with Portuguese law, it is possible to establish in life that, at the time of death, all or part of the assets will be attributed to certain persons or entities. The correct way to leave such an arrangement established is through a will.
Including the Irene Rolo Foundation in your will is an act of great generosity.
