The FIR was born from the will of a woman, Irene Dulce da Palma Arez Rolo, who transformed a 92-year-old heartbreak into an act of love for her neighbour.
We celebrate 40 years this year, always honouring the memory of those who, in a spirit of solidarity, left a seed of selflessness and love sown in the community of Tavira. Four decades of service to people with disabilities and their families, as well as other vulnerable groups, always helping and transforming lives.
In recent years we have faced an economic crisis, a pandemic and now a war so close to us, but this is also the reason for our existence as an institution. The emerging social changes contribute significantly to the adequacy of social intervention practices, the functioning and reorganisation of the support we provide and the way we perceive the world.
To mark the 40th anniversary, we will be promoting a set of initiatives throughout the year, of which we highlight the following:
– Amig@s FIR campaign, which aims to ensure greater proximity with the community. Through a periodic donation, FIR friends can get involved in the dynamics of the entity, contributing to specific projects in the area of social inclusion.
– Anniversary Concert with the Quintet of the Algarve Jazz Orchestra, which will take place on the 30th at Ribeira Market in Tavira. In this initiative where users, families, employees and partners are invited to participate, we will celebrate 40 years defending the rights of people with disabilities.
With our eyes set on the future, we leave the certainty that we will continue to fight for a world where diversity is valued over discrimination. This word that destroys so much within those who did not choose to be different. But none of this matters when we are shown the meaning of the word overcoming.
We are stronger together!
